Our Journey Begins...Rich has arrived in Manitoba!

It’s just after midnight–the early hours of Saturday–I am finally in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The journey from Melbourne to Winnipeg, via Atlanta and then Minneapolis, was exhausting. I did get to see some polar bears on my flights, but they were only drawings in the Coca Cola advertisements printed on the little cocktail napkins distributed with the ‘snacks’ in coach class. I was dozing on the flight from Minneapolis to Winnipeg when the pilot got on the speaker and pointed out the Northern Lights in the distance. We were pretty high above the cloud deck, and I could see a faint, diffuse, green light spread across the horizon. I had never seen the Northern Lights before, so it was a real treat and it kept me from napping.
Now I am in a hotel room near the Winnipeg airport. I will have a few hours to crash before I have to get up, get organized, and get back to the airport for the flight to Churchill.
